Miamiの魅力的な過去を探索し、Miamiが何世紀にもわたってどのように発展してきたかを発見してください。
For thousands of years, the area was inhabited by the Tequesta tribe. The Miami River was a center of their civilization, with villages stretching along the coast. The first Europeans arrived in the 16th century, but permanent settlement was slow to establish.
The modern city of Miami was founded in 1896, the only major US city founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle, a local businesswoman who convinced magnate Henry Flagler to extend his railroad south. During the 1920s and 1930s, the city experienced a building boom that gave rise to the iconic South Beach Art Deco District.
After the Cuban revolution of 1959, a massive wave of Cuban immigrants transformed Miami forever, turning it into a bilingual city and the epicenter of Cuban-American culture. After a turbulent reputation in the 1980s, the city has undergone a spectacular renaissance, establishing itself as a major international financial center and a world capital of contemporary art, thanks in large part to the Art Basel phenomenon.
