Foreign travelers necessarily require a special permit (Tibet Travel Permit - TTB) managed through an authorized agency, in addition to a visa for China, and must always travel accompanied by an official guide. Acute mountain sickness (soroche) is the greatest risk due to altitude (over 3,650 m in Lhasa); It is recommended to ascend gradually, rest for the first 24-48 hours, hydrate well and consult a doctor before the trip. Please note that the region may temporarily close to international tourism during certain weeks in February and March for administrative reasons.
