Religion and Norms: Maldives is a conservative Muslim country. Alcohol and pork are prohibited outside private resorts. On local islands, you must dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) and bikinis are only permitted on designated 'Bikini Beaches'.

Transport: Transfer between islands is by seaplane (expensive but fast and scenic), speedboat, or public ferry (cheap but slow). Seaplanes only fly during the day (before 16:00-17:00).

Sustainability: Collecting coral, shells or sand is strictly prohibited. It is recommended to use 'reef-safe' biodegradable sunscreens to avoid damaging the reefs and minimize the use of single-use plastics.

Currency and Payments: The official currency is the Rufiyaa (MVR), but the US Dollar (USD) is accepted almost everywhere. At resorts, all charges are charged to the room and paid by card at the end of the stay.
