Highway Vignette: To use Slovak highways, it is mandatory to purchase an electronic vignette ('elektronická diaľničná známka'). It can be purchased online or at gas stations and post offices.

Internal Transportation: The train network is a good way to move between major cities. Buses are more efficient for reaching smaller towns and rural areas. Public transportation in cities is cheap and reliable.

Language: The official language is Slovak. Czech is mutually intelligible. In Bratislava and other tourist areas, English is spoken by young people and in the service sector, but in rural areas it can be more difficult to communicate.

Tips: Tipping is common practice. In restaurants, it is common to leave around 10% of the total bill if the service has been satisfactory. You can also round up the bill in bars and taxis.
