Historical Journey

Ancient Period

Founded in 1350 by King U Thong after fleeing an epidemic, the city rose on a strategic river island protected by the Chao Phraya, Pa Sak and Lopburi rivers, quickly becoming the political heart of the thriving Kingdom of Siam.

Development Period

By the 17th century, Ayutthaya had become one of the richest and most cosmopolitan commercial cities on the planet, with more than a million inhabitants and merchant quarters where Dutch, Portuguese, French, Persian and Japanese traders exchanged spices, silk and porcelain.

Modern Period

In 1767 the city was besieged and destroyed by the Burmese army, forcing the capital's move to Thonburi and later to Bangkok. In 1991, Ayutthaya Historical Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, establishing itself as an emblem of Thai heritage.

During the day they are docile because of the heat, but at nightfall they form packs on poorly lit rural roads. Avoid walking through isolated vacant lots at night.

The sun on the bricks of the ruins radiates extreme temperatures. Wear a hat, use sunscreen and carry cold water at all times.

  3. Negotiating Tuk-tuks

Clearly agree on the price per hour or per trip before getting in the tuk-tuk to avoid misunderstandings at the end of the excursion.
