I've been there!Explora el fascinante pasado de Phuket y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
The island was an important port on the trade routes between India and China since ancient times. Their wealth came from tin and rubber. Its strategic location made it a meeting point for merchants of various nationalities.
In the 16th century, Phuket became a major tin mining center, attracting large numbers of Chinese immigrants who left a deep mark on the island's culture and architecture, especially in the old town of Phuket Town. This heritage is visible in Sino-Portuguese architecture.
Beginning in the 1980s, the island's economy pivoted from tin to tourism. The development of its beaches, especially Patong, catapulted it to international fame. After being devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, the island underwent massive reconstruction, modernizing its infrastructure and establishing itself as one of Southeast Asia's leading tourist destinations.
La cronología histórica muestra los momentos clave que han definido el desarrollo de Phuket a lo largo de los siglos.
