The waters vary depending on the area. In the Lakes Region (Arraial do Cabo), the upwelling phenomenon produces cold but crystalline waters (15-21°C). On the Costa Verde and Ilha Grande, the water is warmer (22-27°C in summer) and with gentle waves.

On open sea beaches such as Copacabana, Ipanema or Geribá in Búzios, rip currents can be strong. Attention should be paid to the flags of the lifeguards.
