Tips for Adventure

Find the 'real' Cuba outside the peninsula

For a more authentic experience, take a taxi to the nearby city of Cárdenas or the provincial capital, Matanzas. You will see real Cuban life, without the filter of tourism.

Saturn Cave is a large cenote nearby

Before arriving to Varadero from the airport, there is a spectacular cenote called Cueva de Saturno. It's a fantastic stop for swimming in a freshwater cave.

Tip is the key

Resort staff work very hard for low wages. Tips (in hard currency) make a huge difference in their lives and ensure excellent service. It's the most important thing you can do.

Bring useful gifts

Small gifts such as medicine, hygiene items, school supplies for staff children or clothing are incredibly appreciated, often more than money.

Bring a full first aid kit

Don't count on being able to buy even the most basic medications. Bring everything you might need, including mosquito repellent and high-factor sunscreen.

Varadero is a safe bubble

You can feel completely safe anywhere on the peninsula, at any time. Tourist safety is the top priority.

Be careful when renting scooters

It's a popular way to get around, but be aware of traffic and road conditions. Always wear a helmet.
