Discover the rich history, art and traditions of French Polynesia

French Polynesia is a French overseas community made up of 118 islands and atolls spread across five archipelagos, famous for its turquoise lagoons, overwater bungalows and deep-rooted Polynesian culture.

Festivals & Events

It is the most visited archipelago. It includes Tahiti (the gateway), Moorea (with its Cook and Opunohu Bays) and the legendary Bora Bora. They are islands of high green mountains surrounded by perfect lagoons, ideal for luxury and romance.

A coral ring that encloses an interior lagoon. Rangiroa, Fakarava and Tikehau are paradises for diving and snorkelling. Here the land is minimal and the ocean is everything. It is the ideal place to see pearl farms and pink sand beaches.

Wild islands without coral reefs, with cliffs that fall plumb into the sea. They are the center of tattoo and wood carving culture. Paul Gauguin and Jacques Brel lived and are buried here. It is the most authentic and rude Polynesia.

Sleep in an Overwater Bungalow

Born on these islands, overwater bungalows offer an unparalleled luxury experience. Waking up to the sound of water under your feet and having breakfast while watching tropical fish through the glass floor is a dream come true. Bora Bora and Moorea are home to some of the most iconic resorts in the world where privacy and contact with the lagoon are absolute.

Swim with Sharks and Rays

Polynesian lagoons are natural aquariums. In places like Bora Bora or Huahine, you can dive into shallow waters to interact with friendly rays and blacktip sharks. It is a safe and exciting experience that allows you to understand the respect that Polynesians have for the marine ecosystem.

Explore the Marae: Ancestral Temples

Before the arrival of the missionaries, social and religious life revolved around the Marae, sacred stone platforms. Visiting the Marae Taputapuatea in Raiatea, declared a World Heritage Site, is essential to understand the history of Polynesian navigation and the spiritual connection of this people with their ancestors.

Experience the Heiva I Tahiti Festival

If you travel in July, Heiva is the most important cultural event. It is an explosion of dance, music, singing and traditional sports competitions (such as stone lifting or canoe racing). It is the time when Polynesian pride shines brightest and the islands are filled with color and rhythm.

Diving in the Rangiroa Steps

For diving lovers, Rangiroa Atoll is a pilgrimage destination. Tiputa Pass offers some of the best diving in the world, where incoming currents allow you to 'fly' alongside hundreds of gray sharks, playful dolphins and majestic manta rays in a wildlife spectacle like no other.

Discover the Papenoo Valley in 4x4

Tahiti is not just the coast. The interior of the main island is a world of green mountains, gigantic waterfalls and rushing rivers. A tour of the Papenoo Valley takes you to the volcanic heart of the island, revealing landscapes straight out of a prehistoric adventure film.

Tips for Culture & Heritage

Schedules and Rhythm of Life

Life in Polynesia begins very early, with sunrise. The markets are active from 5:00 AM. On the contrary, cities and towns become very quiet after 6:00 p.m. It is a destination to live during the day.

Transportation between islands

Air Tahiti is the main domestic airline connecting the archipelagos. It is recommended to purchase an 'Air Pass' if you plan to visit several islands. For short journeys, such as Tahiti-Moorea, the fast ferry is the cheapest and most frequent option.

Language and Communication

French is the official language and Tahitian is widely spoken by the local population. In tourist areas, English is spoken without problems. Learning basic words like 'Ia Orana' (Hello) and 'Mauruuru' (Thank you) is greatly appreciated.
