History
Origins
Founded in 1589 by feudal lord Mori Terumoto around Hiroshima Castle, the city grew rapidly as a prosperous urban and commercial center on the Seto Inland Sea.
Development
During the Meiji and Taisho eras, Hiroshima became a strategic industrial and military center of Japan.
Modern era
On August 6, 1945, it became the first city targeted by an atomic bomb. After devastation, it was rebuilt as a 'City of Peace', becoming a global model of resilience and nuclear disarmament.
