Mérida is a city located in the Extremadura region, Spain, known for its rich Roman history and cultural heritage. Founded in the year 25 BC. by Emperor Octavian Augustus as Augusta Emerita, it was a colony for veteran Roman legionaries. The city is famous for its Roman monuments, such as the Roman Theatre, the Amphitheater and the Roman Bridge. In addition to its Roman legacy, Mérida was also the capital of the Visigoth kingdom in the 6th century and has been influenced by various cultures throughout history.
