Brasilia is the capital of Brazil, founded on April 21, 1960. Located in the Federal District, in the Central-West region of the country, it is known for its modernist architecture and unique urban planning. Designed by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer, the city is divided into specific sectors for different activities, such as the Hotel Sector, the Banking Sector and the Embassy Sector. With a population of more than 2.8 million inhabitants, Brasilia is the third most populous city in Brazil and has the highest GDP per capita among Latin American cities. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987 and is an important political and cultural center. The city is home to 133 embassies, the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court and the presidential residence.
