Explora el fascinante pasado de Andorra la Vella y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Populated since prehistoric times by Andean tribes mentioned by Polybius in the 2nd century BC, the region became part of the Roman Empire and later of the Carolingian Hispanic March. The unique Andorran sovereignty was legally consolidated in 1278 with the signing of the 'Paréages', establishing the historic undivided co-principality between the Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix.
For centuries, Andorra la Vella was an isolated mountain town dedicated to livestock, tobacco cultivation and Pyrenean iron forges. The Casa de la Vall (16th century) functioned as the uninterrupted headquarters of the General Council (one of the oldest and smallest parliaments in Europe). Starting in the 1950s, the opening of road access drove a rapid economic transformation based on trade, banking and ski tourism.
With the approval of the first democratic Constitution in 1993 and its entry into the UN, Andorra la Vella consolidated its status as a modern European capital. Today it stands out for its high quality of life, its commitment to urban sustainability (Anella Verda) and the modernization of its pedestrian and commercial axes.
