Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Bruges (Brugge) y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Its origins date back to a fortified settlement to protect itself from Viking raids in the 9th century.
Bruges' golden age took place between the 12th and 15th centuries, when it became a vital trading hub in the Hanseatic League, especially in the wool and Flemish cloth trade. This immense wealth attracted bankers, merchants and artists, making it the cradle of Flemish Primitives such as Jan van Eyck. Its decline began in the late 15th century when its main canal, the Zwin, silted up, cutting off its access to the sea and diverting trade to Antwerp.
Bruges remained dormant for centuries, which paradoxically preserved its medieval fabric intact. It was rediscovered in the 19th century by British and French tourists and became one of the world's first tourist destinations. Its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000, consolidating its status as one of the best preserved and most visited medieval cities on the planet.
