Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Toulouse y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
The city of Toulouse, originally called Toulouse, was conquered by the Romans between 120 and 100 BC, who moved it to the banks of the Garonne River to promote trade. During the 3rd and 4th centuries, Toulouse prospered as a Christian center, with the construction of the first church of Saint Sernin to house the relics of Saint Saturninus, its first bishop. Later, it was the capital of the Visigoth kingdom from 418 to 507, and after the battle of Vouillé it became part of the Frankish kingdom of Aquitaine. In 721, Duke Odo of Aquitaine stopped Muslim expansion into Europe at the Battle of Toulouse, consolidating its strategic importance.
During the Middle Ages, Toulouse was the capital of the county of Toulouse and a vital center for the Cathar movement, leading to the Albigensian Crusade in the 13th century. The city was enriched with monuments such as the Saint-Étienne Cathedral and the Jacobin Convent. In the modern era, Toulouse experienced significant industrial growth, especially with the arrival of aviation and the founding of Airbus in the 20th century, which transformed the city into a world-renowned technological and aeronautical hub. The University of Toulouse, founded in 1229, established itself as an academic benchmark in Europe.
In the contemporary era, Toulouse has become a global center for the aerospace industry, with Airbus leading innovation in aircraft manufacturing. The city also stands out in space technology and high-tech sectors. Its dynamic economy and constantly growing population position it as the fourth largest metropolitan area in France. Furthermore, Toulouse maintains a balance between modernity and tradition, preserving its historical heritage while promoting innovation and contemporary culture.
