Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Varadero y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Before the arrival of Europeans, the Hicacos Peninsula was used by the aborigines, as evidenced by the pictograms in the Ambrosio Cave. During colonial times, the area was used primarily as a salt mine and a timber yard.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, some wealthy families from nearby Cárdenas built summer homes. Its true development as an elite resort began in the 1920s with American millionaire Irénée du Pont, who built a spectacular mansion (today Mansion Xanadú) and a golf course, attracting North American and Cuban high society.
After the 1959 Revolution, private properties were nationalized and the beaches were opened to the Cuban public. The Cuban government, starting in the 1990s, promoted massive tourism development, partnering with international hotel chains to build the large all-inclusive resorts that dominate the landscape today. This transformed Varadero into the engine of international tourism in Cuba.

Extremely safe. It is a highly controlled tourist enclave with a strong security presence. Probably one of the safest places a tourist can visit.
You can walk along long stretches of beach and through the town of Varadero, but the entire peninsula is too long to cover on foot.
Good for tourists within the peninsula, thanks to a double-decker bus, but limited beyond.
Expensive by Cuban standards. The all-inclusive model may seem like a good deal, but the costs of activities and outings are high.
Lively, with a mix of shows in the hotels, some famous clubs and local bars in the village.
Very limited. Culture is mainly presented through entertainment shows in hotels. It is not a cultural destination.
Dominated by resort buffets, of very variable quality. There are some excellent private 'paladares' worth seeking out.
Limited to tourist crafts, rum and cigars. It is not a shopping destination.
Perfect beach weather for most of the year. It is the main reason why millions of people visit it.

The staff working in tourism in Varadero are incredibly professional, friendly and hospitable. Your job is to make visitors feel welcome.
World class. Varadero beach is consistently ranked as one of the best in the world for a reason: the sand is like sugar and the water is an impossible blue.
Dominated by resort architecture. The only architectural gems are the mansions from the pre-revolutionary era.
Its history is that of tourism in Cuba, not that of the nation itself. Its importance is economic, not historical.
The natural beauty is the main attraction, with the beach as the protagonist and an ecological reserve at the tip of the peninsula.
Extremely clean. The beaches and hotel grounds are maintained to an impeccable standard.
Non-existent.
Completely unsuitable for remote work. It is a place to disconnect.
