In 8 days: Quito (2–3) + Galápagos lite (4–5) land-based (Santa Cruz / San Cristóbal), or Cuenca / Amazon if islands don’t fit the budget. Don’t stack Galápagos + Amazon + Cuenca + Otavalo + coast.

Cooler/drier islands; good viewing. Quito drier mid-year.

Days 1–2

Quito (+ Mitad del Mundo lite)

UNESCO historic centre, Teleférico or viewpoint if altitude allows, and Mitad del Mundo only if it doesn’t steal the whole day.

  • Hydrate and go slow on day 1. Don’t climb Cotopaxi the same day you land.
Days 3–7

Galápagos lite (or Cuenca / Amazon)

Flight to Santa Cruz/San Cristóbal: day tours, snorkel, tortoises. Alt: bus/flight to colonial Cuenca, or 3–4 Amazon lodge nights from Coca.

  • Land-based Galápagos > 3-day express cruise if budget is tight. Park fee + transit card on arrival.
Day 8

Buffer & departure

Return to Quito (or Guayaquil) for the international with margin. Island domestics: buffer for weather.

  • If Amazon: lodge exit day is already logistics — don’t count it as a free day.

Flights

UIO/GYE ↔ GPS/SCY frequent. Book island round-trips early; strict baggage kilos.

Where to stay

Quito: La Mariscal/centre · Galápagos: Puerto Ayora/Baquerizo · Cuenca centre · Amazon: full-board lodge.

Altitude & fees

Quito: respect altitude. Galápagos: park fee + transit card. Insurance covering tour cancellations.

Locro · encebollado · chocolate · fresh island fish (pricey). Pack snorkel snacks.
