Madagascar in 12 days: Antananarivo, Avenue of the Baobabs / Morondava and coast or park (Isalo/Andasibe). A realistic island-continent with internal flights.
Madagascar isn’t “done” in 12 days
In 12 days the sane plan is Tana (1–2) + Morondava / baobabs (3–4) + one contrast: Andasibe (lemurs near Tana), Isalo (south) or Nosy Be lite. Don’t stack Tulear + Diego + Sainte-Marie + Ranomafana + full RN7 — distances lie.

Best overall window; Jul–Aug peak tourism at baobabs and parks.
Dec–Mar (rains)
Cyclones possible on east coast; rough roads. Only with flexibility and insurance.

Days 1–2Antananarivo
Jet lag, Haute-Ville or market with a guide, and buffer for the first domestic flight. Optional Andasibe day if lemur contrast comes first.
- Tana traffic eats hours — don’t plan three museums on arrival day.
Days 3–7Morondava & baobabs
Flight to Morondava. Avenue of the Baobabs at sunset (and sunrise if you can), Kirindy or Belo if time allows — without forcing express Bekopaka round-trips.
- Baobab sunset is the postcard — arrive early, stay for the light.
Days 8–12Contrast: Isalo, Andasibe or Nosy Be
Isalo (canyons and easy trekking), Andasibe (indri near Tana) or Nosy Be lite (beach). Return to Tana with 1 buffer day for the international.
- Full RN7 by car “just because” steals the trip. Prefer domestic flights when they exist.

Internal flights
Madagascar Airlines and similar: frequent delays. Leave buffers and don’t same-day connect to the international.
Where to stay
Tana: safe area with known hotel · Morondava: near centre · Parks: lodge with local guide.
Roads & cash
Slow distances. Cash in ariary outside Tana. Insurance with cancellation and evacuation.
Food
Rice · coastal fish · fruit. Bottled water. Try romazava with judgment.

Lemurs and trails make more sense (and safer) with a park guide.
The whole island in 12 days
North + south + east + west = terminals. Pick two hubs + Tana.
Baobab sunrise & sunset
If you can, go twice — different light, fewer people at sunrise.
Only Avenue selfie
Kirindy or a walk with a local guide adds context — not just the postcard.
