Days 1–2Kigali
Genocide Memorial (time and respect), market, specialty coffee, one walkable neighbourhood. Don’t treat Kigali as “hotel night only”.
- Stay central or with a solid airport transfer.
Days 3–5Volcanoes or Nyungwe
Volcanoes/Musanze: gorilla trek (permit) or golden monkeys. Alt: Nyungwe canopy and forest. Pick one deep park, not two express.
- Fitness and boots — trek day sets the trip’s pace.
Days 6–7Lake Kivu
Rubavu (Gisenyi) or Karongi (Kibuye): lake, walk, decompress. Return to Kigali for your flight.
- Road transfer: leave buffer — not a national museum the same day as the trek.

Day driver or organised tours between hubs. City motos with helmet. Roads better than the myth, but time still counts.
