Days 1–2

Kigali

Genocide Memorial (time and respect), market, specialty coffee, one walkable neighbourhood. Don’t treat Kigali as “hotel night only”.

  • Stay central or with a solid airport transfer.
Days 3–5

Volcanoes or Nyungwe

Volcanoes/Musanze: gorilla trek (permit) or golden monkeys. Alt: Nyungwe canopy and forest. Pick one deep park, not two express.

  • Fitness and boots — trek day sets the trip’s pace.
Days 6–7

Lake Kivu

Rubavu (Gisenyi) or Karongi (Kibuye): lake, walk, decompress. Return to Kigali for your flight.

  • Road transfer: leave buffer — not a national museum the same day as the trek.
