8 days · Dakar + Gorée + Saloum/Saint-Louis
Senegal in 8 days
Senegal in 8 days: Dakar + Gorée Island + Sine Saloum or Saint-Louis. Atlantic capital, memory and delta without map overload.
Capital, memory and one second hub
In 8 days: Dakar (3–4) + Gorée (1) + Sine Saloum or Saint-Louis (3). Don’t stack Casamance + Lac Rose + Touba + Saloum + Saint-Louis — pick one second hub.

When
Nov–May
Dry season: more pleasant on coast and delta. Peak at holidays — book ahead.
Jun–Oct
Rains (hivernage); intense green; some lodges close. Pack rain gear.
Shoulder Dec / Apr
Good climate/price balance if you avoid European holiday peaks.
Budget / day
€40–120
Hotel
€15–35
Food

Transfers/tours

Total
8 days
Days 1–3Dakar
Plateau, Medina, coast (Ngor/Almadies), music and one museum (IFAN / Black Civilisations). One neighbourhood-only day.
- Base in Almadies/Ngor or Plateau by pace: coast vs city.
Day 4Gorée Island
Short ferry, House of Slaves and colonial streets. Sober memorial day — not a selfie checklist. Leave the evening free in Dakar.
- Respectful dress and conduct. A local guide enriches historical context.
Days 5–8Sine Saloum or Saint-Louis
Option A: Sine Saloum (pirogues, mangroves, birds, lodge). Option B: Saint-Louis (colonial core, Senegal River). Return to Dakar last day if flying from DSS.
- Pick one hub: Saloum is nature; Saint-Louis is historic city. Not both in 3 nights.
Practical
Getting around
Taxi/Yango in Dakar; ferry to Gorée; car or bus to Saloum/Saint-Louis. Day driver saves time outside the capital.
Where to stay
Dakar: Almadies/Plateau · Saloum: lodge · Saint-Louis: old town · Gorée only if overnighting on island.
Health & respect
Check vaccines/malaria beforehand; bottled water. Gorée: memorial, not a light attraction. Travel insurance helps.
Food
Thieboudienne · yassa · mafé · Touba coffee. Teranga: hospitality > hotel buffet only.
Tips
Gorée with time
Don’t squeeze it between two shopping stops. Leave emotional space after.
Casamance + Saloum + Saint-Louis
In 8 days one second hub is enough. Casamance deserves another trip.
French & teranga
French helps; a “salaam aleikum” opens doors. Bargain respectfully in markets.
Lac Rose express only
Fine as a half-day from Dakar — it doesn’t replace Saloum or Saint-Louis.
