Cruza al Oltrarno
To escape the crowds and find the Florence of the artisans, cross any of the bridges and get lost in the Oltrarno neighborhood. It is full of workshops, bars and authentic trattorias.
Visit the Vasari Corridor (from outside)
Although it is often closed for restoration, you can follow from the street the route of the Vasari Corridor, the elevated walkway that connects the Palazzo Vecchio with the Pitti Palace, passing over the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio.
¡RESERVA TODO!
It cannot be emphasized enough. For the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia, book your tickets online MONTHS in advance if you travel during high season. To climb the Duomo dome, reservations are mandatory and sell out weeks in advance.
Identify good leather
Genuine Italian leather is not cheap. Be wary of incredible 'offers'. Genuine leather has a characteristic smell and small imperfections. Look for the 'Made in Italy' label.
Comfortable footwear is essential
You're going to be walking on cobblestones a lot. Leave the heels at home and bring your most comfortable shoes.
Water fountains ('Fontanelle')
There are drinking water fountains throughout the city. Bring a reusable bottle to refill it.
Beware of pickpockets
The main risk. Pay special attention in queues at museums, in markets and in the busiest areas around the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio.
