Discover the rich history, art and traditions of Austria
Austria is a landlocked country in the heart of Europe, known for its majestic Alpine mountains, its imperial cities such as Vienna and Salzburg, its deep heritage in classical music and its charming traditional culture.
Festivals & Events

These three cities are the cultural heart of Austria. Vienna, the capital, dazzles with its palaces, museums and opera. Salzburg, Mozart's birthplace, is a baroque gem at the foot of the Alps, with an imposing fortress and a dreamlike old town. Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, offers a unique picture of colorful buildings with snow-capped peaks as a backdrop.
Austria is a paradise for nature lovers. The Salzkammergut region is dotted with more than 70 spectacular lakes, such as Wolfgangsee and Mondsee, perfect for swimming and water sports. The Alps offer countless hiking trails in summer and some of the best ski resorts in the world in winter, such as those in Tyrol and Arlberg.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wachau Valley is one of the most picturesque stretches of the Danube River. You can explore it by boat, car or bicycle, discovering terraced vineyards, ruined castles, charming towns like Dürnstein and majestic abbeys like Melk.
Attend a Classical Music Concert in Vienna
Living music in its cradle is a mandatory experience. Vienna, the world capital of music, offers concerts in historic venues such as the State Opera or the Musikverein. Listening to the works of Mozart, Strauss or Beethoven in the environment for which they were composed is a cultural immersion that transports you to the golden age of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Visit a Traditional Viennese Café
More than just a café, the 'Kaffeehaus' is a Viennese cultural institution. It is a place to spend hours reading the newspaper, chatting or simply watching life go by, while enjoying a cup of Melange coffee and a slice of cake, like the famous Sachertorte. They are the living room of the Viennese, full of history and elegance.
Travel the Grossglockner Alpine Road
For lovers of driving and spectacular landscapes, this panoramic road is one of the best experiences in Europe. With 48 kilometers and 36 curves, it climbs to the foot of Grossglockner, Austria's highest mountain, offering unforgettable views of glaciers, peaks and alpine valleys.
Get lost in Hallstatt, the Storybook Town
Located on the shores of a lake and surrounded by imposing mountains, Hallstatt is considered one of the most beautiful towns in the world. Strolling through its narrow streets, admiring its wooden houses that seem to hang over the water and climbing the 'Skywalk' observation deck for a panoramic view is a truly magical experience.
Explore the Habsburg Imperial Palaces
The history of Austria is linked to the powerful Habsburg dynasty. Exploring its residences is like traveling back in time. Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence, and Hofburg Palace, the residential complex in the heart of Vienna, are essential visits to understand the opulence and power of the empire.
Live the Magic of the Christmas Markets
During Advent, the squares of Austrian cities and towns are transformed into magical Christmas markets ('Christkindlmärkte'). With their lights, craft stalls and the aroma of mulled wine (Glühwein) and cookies, they offer a uniquely festive and cozy atmosphere.

Public transport
The train network (ÖBB) is extremely efficient, punctual and comfortable connecting major cities and many rural areas. For more remote valleys and towns, postal buses ('Postbus') are an excellent and reliable option.
Language
The official language is German. In cities and tourist areas, English is spoken by a large part of the population, especially by the youngest. Learning some basic German phrases like 'Grüß Gott' (the typical greeting) or 'Danke' (thank you) is always well received.
Tips
Tipping is not strictly mandatory, since the service is included. However, it is customary to round the bill up to the next euro or leave between 5% and 10% in restaurants if the service has been satisfactory. The total amount to be paid is usually indicated to the waiter instead of leaving the money on the table.
