History
Origins
Originally a small fishing village called Prey Nokor, inhabited by indigenous communities and under the influence of Khmer kingdoms, the area was a strategic point in the Mekong Delta. Its location facilitated initial development as a trading and fishing settlement in southern Vietnam.
Development
During French colonization, the town was transformed into Saigon, the capital of French Indochina, developing with elegant boulevards and European architecture. In the 20th century, Saigon was the capital of South Vietnam and the central theater of the Vietnam War, with accelerated urban growth and significant modernization.
Modern era
