History
Origins
Medellín was founded in 1675 by Francisco Herrera y Campuzano, although the region was already inhabited by indigenous people. The city slowly grew to become an important commercial and cultural center in the 19th century.
Development
During the Middle Ages there was no significant presence in Medellín, as the city was not an important center in that period. However, in the modern era, Medellín experienced accelerated urban growth, especially during the 20th century, when it became an industrial and cultural hub of Colombia.
