Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Osaka y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
The origins of Osaka date back to the 5th century, when it functioned as an important port known as Naniwatsu, being one of the first capitals of Japan. It was a gateway for trade and culture to mainland Asia, leading to the construction in 593 of the Shitennoji Temple, the country's first official Buddhist temple.
The city flourished as a commercial center during the Edo period (1603-1868). Its key transformation came in the late 16th century, when the feudal lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi chose Osaka as his power base and built the magnificent Osaka Castle in 1583. Despite its subsequent destruction, the city was rebuilt by merchants, establishing itself as "the larder of the country" thanks to its network of canals and its central role in the rice trade.
After being rebuilt after World War II, Osaka reaffirmed itself as an economic and industrial power. In recent decades, it has cultivated an identity as a global, vibrant and welcoming city, famous for its popular culture, modern architecture such as the Umeda Sky Building, and for hosting the 2025 World Expo, demonstrating its constant evolution.
