Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Hvar y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, the island was colonized by the ancient Greeks in 384 BC, who founded the city of Pharos (present-day Stari Grad). The Stari Grad Plain, a perfectly preserved agricultural landscape since Greek times, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Like many Dalmatian islands, Hvar flourished under the rule of the Republic of Venice. The Venetians built the impressive walls and fortress of Hvar Town, which became an important naval and commercial port. This Venetian legacy defines the architecture and character of its main cities.
In the 19th century, under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Hvar became one of the first centers of organized tourism in the Adriatic, promoted for its healing properties and mild climate. In recent decades, it has cemented its status as one of Croatia's most exclusive and lively destinations, attracting an international audience in search of sun, luxury and fun.
