Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Crete y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Crete was the center of the sophisticated Minoan civilization (c. 2700–1450 BC), which built palace complexes such as Knossos and Faistos, and developed trade throughout the Mediterranean. This era of splendor, filled with legends such as that of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth, ended abruptly, possibly due to the eruption of Santorini and subsequent invasions.
After the Minoans, the island was ruled by the Mycenaeans, Romans and Byzantines. One of its most influential eras was the Venetian rule (1212-1669), which left an indelible mark on the architecture of port cities such as Chania and Rethymno. Later, it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire, giving rise to a unique cultural mix. The island fought fiercely for its independence and finally joined Greece in 1913.
During World War II, Crete was the scene of brave but tragic resistance at the Battle of Crete. In recent decades, the island has become an important tourist destination, appreciated for its incredible diversity, allowing visitors to combine the exploration of dream beaches with high mountain hiking and immersion in ancient history.
