Explora el fascinante pasado de Strikes y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
During the Archaic period, Paros was a maritime power and a prosperous commercial center, thanks in large part to its high-quality marble quarries. Paros marble ('lychnites') was prized throughout the ancient world for its purity and translucency, and was used to create some of the most famous sculptures in history. The island often rivaled its neighbor Naxos for dominance in the Cyclades.
Like many of the Cyclades, Paros was under Venetian and Ottoman rule. A crucial vestige of its past is the church of Panagia Ekatontapiliani ('the church of the hundred doors'), one of the most important early Christian monuments in Greece, whose original construction dates back to the 4th century.
Tourism in Paros developed steadily, attracting a public seeking a balance between tranquility and fun. Its central location in the Cyclades made it a key ferry communications hub. In recent years, its popularity has skyrocketed, especially in the town of Naoussa, which has become a fashionable and haute cuisine destination.
