Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Punta Cana y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Before the arrival of Europeans, the area, inhabited by the Taíno indigenous people, was a region of jungle and virgin beaches without large settlements. The original name of the area was Yauya or Punta Borrachón.
Until the late 1960s, the area was a remote, impenetrable jungle with no road access. In 1969, a group of American investors and Dominican businessman Frank Rainieri saw its potential and purchased a large plot of land. In 1970, Rainieri changed the name to Punta Cana. Development began with a small hotel in 1971 and the arrival of Club Med in 1978.
The turning point was the inauguration of the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in 1984, the first private international airport in the world. This opened the region to mass tourism and triggered a boom in the construction of all-inclusive resorts. Today, Punta Cana is the most popular tourist destination in the Caribbean, receiving the majority of flights arriving to the Dominican Republic and being a key economic engine for the country.

The tourist area of Punta Cana is a very safe 'bubble', with a strong investment in security. Common sense precautions apply.
It is not a walkable city. The distances are enormous and depend on transportation. You walk inside the resorts and on the beach.

Culture is mainly presented through tourist shows and festivals. The Dominican influence is more palpable outside of the resorts.
A dual culinary scene: the resorts offer a wide variety of international cuisine, while outside you can find authentic Dominican food.
Good shopping options, from modern shopping centers with international brands to local craft markets.

World class. The reason millions of people visit. A perfect combination of white sand, fine as powder, and a sea with multiple shades of turquoise blue.
The architecture is dominated by large resorts and shopping centers. It is not a destination known for its historic architecture.
Its history is that of a successful 50-year tourism development project. Its importance is economic and modern, not historical.
The natural beauty of the beaches and the sea is the main 'green' space, complemented by ecological reserves and adventure parks.
The Hotel Zone and beaches are maintained at a very high level of cleanliness, as it is the top priority for tourism.
Non-existent. The economy is almost exclusively focused on tourism.
Good infrastructure for relaxed 'workations', but it is not a center for digital nomads due to its holiday atmosphere and cost.
