Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de New Orleans y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Founded in 1718 by the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, La Nouvelle-Orléans was named in honor of the regent of France, the Duke of Orléans. Established on land inhabited by indigenous people, it soon became an important commercial port and capital of the French colony of Louisiana.
Ceded to Spain in 1763, the city developed much of its iconic architecture in the French Quarter during Spanish rule, especially after two major fires. Returned to France in 1800, it was sold to the United States in 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. During the 19th century, it became the largest city in the South and a melting pot of cultures with the arrival of immigrants from all over the world.
Throughout the 20th century, the city cemented its reputation as the birthplace of jazz and a unique cultural center. In August 2005, New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, causing massive flooding and catastrophic loss of life. Since then, the city has undergone a remarkable process of reconstruction and revitalization, demonstrating a resilience that is fundamental to its identity.
