Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Uyuni y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
The region was inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Urus and Aymaras. The salt flat area is the remnant of gigantic prehistoric lakes, such as Lake Minchin, which dried up thousands of years ago, leaving a crust of salt several meters thick.
Founded in 1889 as a strategic railway center, Uyuni became Bolivia's most important transportation hub for the export of minerals to the Pacific. The railroad brought prosperity and a unique industrial identity to the city.
Today, Uyuni has gone from being a railway hub to a global tourist epicenter. It is the most iconic destination in Bolivia and a key point for the lithium industry, housing one of the world's largest reserves of this mineral.
