Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Guayaquil y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Before the arrival of the Spanish, the Guayaquil area was inhabited by indigenous peoples such as the Huancavilcas, who had a developed culture based on fishing, agriculture and trade. These pre-Columbian people took advantage of the strategic geographical location at the mouth of the Guayas River to establish settlements and trade routes.
The founding of Guayaquil was a complex process during the Spanish conquest between 1534 and 1547, with several transfers and conflicts with the native peoples. Sebastián de Benalcázar made the first foundation in 1535, although the officially recognized date is July 25, 1537, when Francisco de Orellana established the definitive settlement called Santiago de Guayaquil. During the colonial era, Guayaquil grew as an important commercial port, facing pirate attacks and actively participating in Ecuador's independence in the 19th century.
In the 20th and 21st centuries, Guayaquil has established itself as the economic engine of Ecuador, with accelerated urban development, modernization of its port infrastructure and expansion of its metropolitan area. Recent events include the revitalization of Malecón 2000 and the promotion of cultural and ecological tourism. The city plays a key role in international trade and industry, maintaining its relevance in the contemporary global context.
