Belize is a captivating country located on the east coast of Central America, bathed by the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It stands out for its extraordinary Barrier Reef (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO), the legendary Great Blue Hole, mysterious Mayan ceremonial caves hidden in the jungle such as Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM), and a vibrant cultural diversity that unites Garifuna, Creole, Mayan and mestizo communities under an infectious Caribbean motto: 'Go Slow'.

Belizean gastronomy is a multicultural feast that reflects the identity of its people. It combines the freshness of Caribbean seafood (lobster, sea snail and snapper), fresh coconut milk, rice and beans with Mayan marinating techniques based on annatto paste (recado rojo), the spicy touch of habanero and traditional Garifuna recipes.
The undisputed national dish of Belize. Rice and red beans cooked together slowly in fresh coconut milk, served with tender chicken marinated in annatto paste and stewed in its caramelized sauce, accompanied by potato salad with mayonnaise and fried ripe plantain.
The undisputed star of Belizean breakfast. Triangles or rectangles of flour dough fried instantly in hot oil until puffed and golden, crispy on the outside and tender and hollow on the inside, which are filled with refried beans, scrambled eggs, Dutch cheese or bacon.
The traditional signature dish of the Garifuna people. It is a hearty fresh fish soup cooked in a creamy and aromatic broth of coconut milk infused with garlic, onion and basil, accompanied by 'Fu-fu' (dense puree made by pounding ripe green bananas in a wooden mortar).

Snacks from the sea par excellence. The 'Conch Fritters' are crispy fritters of minced sea snail meat with peppers, onion and spices; while the Belizean ceviche marinates conch, shrimp or fresh fish in plenty of lime juice with chopped tomato, cilantro, onion and habanero chili sauce.
Traditional stew of Mayan-mestizo heritage with a dark appearance and deep flavor, prepared with 'recado negro' (achiote and burnt chiles), chicken meat, vegetables and spices, served in a hot casserole with whole boiled eggs and freshly made corn tortillas.
Classics of Mayan-mestizo street food. Salbutes are small, soft, puffed corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken, chopped cabbage, tomato, and avocado; Garnaches are crispy fried tortillas spread with refried beans, grated Dutch cheese, and pickled habanero onion salsa.

The national beer of Belize, nicknamed 'The Beer of Belize'. Its label displays the Mayan pyramid of Altun Ha and is brewed in classic Lager, dark Stout and limited edition seasonal beers.
The quintessential Caribbean tropical cocktail, prepared with local dark rum (such as the famous One Barrel or Tiburon Rum), white rum, fresh pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine and a splash of lime juice.
Traditional and nutritious coastal drink made by blending seaweed collected on the reef with condensed milk, evaporated milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and often a touch of rum.
Natural and revitalizing soft drink prepared by blending fresh chaya leaves (the sacred Mayan spinach) with pineapple and lime juice, as well as refreshing natural smoothies of passion fruit, soursop and mango.
Traditional Caribbean pie with a crispy shortcrust pastry base filled with fresh grated coconut slowly cooked with brown sugar, condensed milk, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Dense and aromatic dessert from the Garifuna tradition made by baking finely grated cassava root with coconut milk, cane sugar, fresh ginger, cinnamon and butter.
Fluffy and light cake completely soaked in a sweet mixture of three types of milk (evaporated, condensed and fresh cream), topped with soft meringue and ground cinnamon.
Sweet version of the classic tamale of Mayan origin made with sweet corn ground with sugar, butter, coconut milk and raisins, wrapped in green corn leaves and steamed.
