Tips for Culture & Heritage

Sunset at Hohenbaden Castle

Climb in the late afternoon to the ruins of the Altes Schloss to enjoy the sunset over the Rhine Valley with views all the way to Strasbourg and listen to the giant Aeolian harp installed on the castle walls.

Guided Morning Visit to the Casino

If you don't want to play at night, take the morning guided tour (before the gaming tables open) to calmly admire the lavish palatial architecture of the halls.

Friedrichsbad vs. Bathroom Etiquette Caracalla

In historic Friedrichsbad the circuit is strictly nudist ('textilfrei') and swimsuits are not allowed. In the modern Caracalla thermal baths, a bathing suit is mandatory in the pools and nudism only applies in the upper sauna area.

Casino Dress Code

To access the classic gaming rooms of the Casino, formal attire is required (jacket and shirt for men, dress or elegant suit for women). Jackets can be rented at reception.

Drinking Water from the Trinhalle

The mineralized thermal water of the Trinhalle is rich in minerals and sodium; Drink it warm in small sips to promote digestion according to nineteenth-century tradition.

Thermal Immersion Times

Due to the high temperature and mineral load of the water in the Caracalla and Friedrichsbad thermal baths, it is recommended to limit continuous immersion to 15-20 minutes per pool and hydrate frequently.

Total Security in Urban Areas

The city has exceptional security; Walking at night through the Kurpark and the streets of the historic center is completely calm and safe.

Hiking in the Black Forest

On routes to Hohenbaden Castle or the Battert Rocks, follow the official marked trails of the Schwarzwaldverein and wear grippy footwear.
