History
Origins
The origins of Burgos date back to the 9th century, when it was founded as a fortified settlement by Count Diego Rodríguez Porcelos in the year 884 to protect the border of the Kingdom of Asturias against the Muslims.Before its founding, the area was inhabited by pre-Roman peoples and later by Romans, although there was no consolidated city.Burgos developed on a strategic territory on the northern plateau, at a crossroads that facilitated its growth and consolidation.
