Discover the rich history, art and traditions of Greece

Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in southeastern Europe, known for being the birthplace of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic Games, and literature. Its historical legacy is combined with a spectacular landscape of thousands of islands, dream beaches and a vibrant culture.

Festivals & Events

Follow in the footsteps of the ancients. The classical circuit includes the Acropolis of Athens, the sanctuary of Delphi, the birthplace of the Olympic Games at Olympia and the theater of Epidaurus, with its perfect acoustics.

There is an island for every type of traveler. The Cyclades, with iconic Santorini and Mykonos, are a postcard dream. Crete is a mini-continent with spectacular beaches, mountains and Minoan ruins. The Ionian Islands offer lush vegetation and emerald waters. And the Dodecanese, like Rhodes, combines beaches with a rich medieval history.

Discover Greece beyond classical antiquity. The monasteries of Meteora are a marvel of faith and engineering. The ghost city of Mystras, in the Peloponnese, was the last Byzantine capital. And the old town of Rhodes is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe.

Watch the Sunset in Oia, Santorini

It is one of the most famous and photographed sunsets in the world. Watching the sun dip into the Aegean Sea, turning the sky orange and pink while illuminating the iconic blue domes and white houses of Oia, is a truly magical and romantic experience.

Climb the Acropolis of Athens

Walking among the temples of the Acropolis is to connect directly with history. Standing in front of the Parthenon, the Erechtheion and the Temple of Athena Nike is a lesson in architecture, art and democracy. The views of bustling Athens from the sacred hill are the icing on the cake.

Do 'Island Hopping' through the Cyclades

The best way to experience the diversity of the Greek islands is to hop from one to the next. Take a ferry and design your own route. It combines the sophistication of Mykonos with the volcanic beauty of Santorini, the authenticity of Naxos or Paros, and the tranquility of the smaller islands.

Marvel at the Monasteries of Meteora

In central Greece, a landscape of imposing rock pillars seems taken from another world. On its peaks, hermit monks built monasteries starting in the 14th century, creating one of the most spectacular complexes in Europe, declared a World Heritage Site.

Enjoy a Long Lunch in a Tavern by the Sea

The true essence of Greek life is found in its taverns. Sit at a table by the water, order a selection of 'mezedes' (tapas), a fresh grilled fish, a Greek salad and a carafe of local wine. Without rushing, enjoying the food, the conversation and the sea breeze.

Consult the Oracle at Delphi

On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Delphi was the most important religious center of the Hellenic world. Walk the Sacred Way, visit the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythoness delivered her oracles, and sit in the ancient theater with its stunning views of the valley.

Tips for Culture & Heritage

Island Hopping (Ferries)

The ferry is the main means of transportation between the islands. In high season, it is highly recommended to book tickets in advance, especially for the most popular routes or if you are traveling by car.

Cash

Although credit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, it is always useful to carry some cash. On smaller islands, family taverns or small businesses may not accept cards.

The 'Go-Go' Rhythm of Life

Adopt the local rhythm of life. 'Siga-siga' means 'slow, slow'. Meals are long, social events, and business hours may include an afternoon break, especially outside of the more touristy areas. Don't stress, relax and enjoy.
