Discover the rich history, art and traditions of Taste

Qatar is a peninsula in the Persian Gulf that has emerged as a global center of luxury, art and culture. It is a country of contrasts, where ultra-modern skyscrapers rise alongside traditional souks and ancient fortresses.

Festivals & Events

Doha has established itself as a top-level cultural center. The Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I.M. Pei, is an architectural masterpiece that houses a priceless collection of Islamic art. The National Museum of Qatar, designed by Jean Nouvel, tells the country's history in an immersive way. The Katara Cultural Village completes this offer with its theaters and galleries.

Qatar's modernity is reflected in its impressive architecture. Stroll around La Perla, an artificial island with marinas and luxury boutiques. Explore the center of Msheireb, a sustainable urban regeneration project, or visit the Villaggio shopping centre, with its Venetian theme including indoor canals.

To connect with the soul of Qatar, it is essential to visit the Souq Waqif. Not far away, the dhow harbor displays the traditional boats that were key to trade and pearl fishing. For a deeper historical immersion, a trip to Al Zubarah Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must.

Getting lost in the Souq Waqif

It is the beating and traditional heart of Doha. Walking through its labyrinthine streets is a sensory immersion. Here you can buy everything from spices, dates and oud perfumes, to crafts, and visit the unique falcon hospital. At night, the souk comes to life with open-air restaurants and cafes.

Take a Desert Safari

A quintessential Qatari experience. It consists of an exciting tour in a 4x4 vehicle over the imposing sand dunes ('dune bashing'). The tour usually includes a stop at Khor Al Adaid, the famous 'inland sea', where the desert meets the sea, and is often complemented by a camel ride and dinner in a Bedouin-style camp.

Sail on a Traditional Dhow

Embark on a dhow, the region's traditional wooden sailing boat, for a unique perspective of Doha's stunning skyline. A sunset cruise along the bay offers spectacular views of the skyscrapers of West Bay lighting up as the sun sets over the Arabian Gulf.

Explore The Pearl of Qatar (The Pearl-Qatar)

This impressive artificial island is synonymous with luxury. Stroll through its Mediterranean-style marinas, admire the yachts and high-end apartment buildings. The Qanat Quartier area, with its colorful canals and bridges, recreates a corner of Venice in the desert, offering a unique setting for photos and walks.

Enjoy Karak Tea at a Local Stall

More than a drink, Karak is a social institution. This strong, milky tea, spiced with cardamom, has become the unofficial drink of Qatar. Ordering it from the car at one of the many available stands and enjoying it hot is an authentic and comforting local experience.

Visit the Katara Cultural Village

This beachfront resort is a hub for arts and culture. It houses theaters, art galleries, concert halls and a beautiful mosque with turquoise mosaics. It is a perfect place to walk, enjoy the architecture and feel the creative pulse of the country.

Tips for Culture & Heritage

Dress Code

Although Qatar is relatively tolerant, it is recommended to dress modestly in public out of respect for the local culture. Both men and women should try to cover their shoulders and knees. To visit mosques, women are required to cover their heads.

Social Etiquette and Respect

Hospitality is key. When invited, it is good manners to accept at least one cup of coffee. Always use your right hand to greet, give or receive objects, especially food. During the holy month of Ramadan, avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public during fasting hours.

Transport

Doha has a modern, clean and efficient metro system that connects the main tourist attractions. Taxis and transportation services like Uber (Karwa is the official taxi) are plentiful and a convenient way to get around the city.
