A Mosaic of Gulf Flavors
Qatari gastronomy is a reflection of its history as a cultural nexus, with deep influences from Levantine, Iranian, Indian and North African cuisine. It is based on ingredients such as lamb, chicken, fresh fish, rice and a rich palette of spices that create aromatic and comforting dishes. Food is a pillar of hospitality and social life.
Must-Try Dishes
Machboos
Considered the national dish of Qatar, it is an essential delicacy. It consists of rice simmered with a rich mixture of spices and meat (usually lamb or chicken) or fish. The result is an incredibly tasty and aromatic dish that represents the heart of Qatari home cooking.
Saloon
A classic Arabic stew, nutritious and full of flavor. It can be prepared with lamb, chicken or fish, and always includes a variety of vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, carrots and eggplant, cooked in a spicy broth.

Balaleet
A dish that lies between sweet and salty, often consumed for breakfast, but also as a dessert. It consists of thin noodles (vermicelli) sweetened and cooked with saffron and cardamom, topped with a thin egg omelette.
