Modern era

In the 20th and 21st centuries, Murcia has established itself as a dynamic capital of services and an important university center, which gives it a young and lively atmosphere. The city continues to live in the face of its rich orchard and has undertaken projects to revitalize the banks of the Segura, integrating them into urban life.

Tips for Culture & Heritage

Climb the Cathedral Tower

Many people admire the tower from below, but the views of the city, the river and the immense orchard that surrounds it from above are spectacular.

Explore beyond the Plaza de las Flores

The Plaza de las Flores is fantastic but can be very busy. Explore nearby plazas like San Juan or Santa Catalina for an equally good and perhaps quieter tapas experience.

The Rhythm of the Sun

Life in Murcia is marked by the climate. In summer, avoid the street during central hours (2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.).The city comes alive at dusk and at night.

'Acho', the Key Word

You will constantly hear the interjection 'acho', an abbreviation of 'boy' that is used for everything: attracting attention, expressing surprise, etc.It is the sound of Murcia.

Hydration and Sun Protection

It is the most important advice, especially from spring to autumn.Drink plenty of water and use high sun protection. The sun is very strong.

Tap Water

Tap water is drinkable, but has a high lime content and a strong taste. Most people consume bottled water.

Very Safe City

Murcia is a very quiet and safe city.Apply basic common sense and you won't have any problems.
