Rail tips

The Aerobús is the fastest and most direct option to the center. The train (from T2) and the metro (with a special ticket) are more economical alternatives.

The Metro, Bus and Tram system is integrated and efficient. It is the best way to get around Barcelona.

For multi-day stays, the T-casual pass (10 journeys, can be shared) is usually more cost-effective than the Hola Barcelona (unlimited journeys, individual).

Don't miss the charming transportation: the Montjuïc Funicular (included in the metro ticket) and the Tramvia Blau (historic tram) to go up to Tibidabo.

Tips for Train Travel

Local Beaches

La Barceloneta is the most famous, but also the most crowded. For a more local experience, go to Bogatell beach (quiet and sporty) or Mar Bella beach (popular in the LGBTQ+ community).

Neighborhood Festivals

If you travel in summer, check if it coincides with a neighborhood's 'Festa Major' (Gràcia in August is the most famous). The streets are decorated and there are free concerts.

Meal Times

Times are late. Lunch is between 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Dinner does not start before 9:00 p.m.

Local Greetings

Greeting with 'Bon dia' (good morning) or 'Bonatarda' (good afternoon) in Catalan will be greatly appreciated by locals.

Tap Water and Fountains

Tap water is drinkable but strong-tasting. There are many public fountains ('fonts') throughout the city to refill your bottle.

24h Pharmacies

They are identified with a green cross. They offer advice for minor ailments and there is always a 'farmàcia de guàrdia' open 24 hours.

Constant Vigilance

The main security problem is petty theft, not violence. Watch your belongings at all times, especially in crowds.

Protect your Belongings

Always carry your bag or backpack closed and in front of your body. Never leave your phone or wallet on the table on terraces.
