Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Bern y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Bern was founded in 1191 by Duke Berthold V of Zähringen. Its first inhabitants were German settlers who established the city on a natural peninsula of the Aar River, taking advantage of its strategic position for defense and trade. Before its founding, the region was inhabited by Celtic tribes and later by Romans, although the city as such developed in the Middle Ages.
After a major fire in 1405, Bern was rebuilt mainly in stone, giving it its characteristic medieval appearance that remains to this day. During the Middle Ages, Bern grew as a powerful city-state within the Swiss Confederation, expanding its walls and developing a system of self-government. Iconic monuments such as the Zytglogge Clock Tower and the Bern Cathedral were built during this time. In the modern era, Bern established itself as a political and cultural center, maintaining its regional and national importance.
In the 20th and 21st centuries, Bern has experienced balanced urban development, preserving its historical heritage while modernizing infrastructure and services. The city is the seat of the Swiss federal government and is home to numerous international institutions. Recent events include the restoration of historical monuments and the promotion of cultural tourism. Bern plays a key role in contemporary Swiss politics, economy and culture, maintaining its medieval identity in a modern context.
