I've been there!Explora el fascinante pasado de Lausanne y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
The origins of Lausanne date back to Roman times, when it was known as Lousonna, a strategic settlement in the Lake Geneva region. Before the Roman arrival, the area was inhabited by Celtic tribes. During ancient times, the city was a key point for trade and administration in the region, thanks to its location between the Alps and the Jura.
During the Middle Ages, Lausanne established itself as an important religious and political center, being the seat of a bishopric since the 4th century. In the 14th century, Château Saint-Maire, a fortified residence of the bishops, was built. The city experienced significant urban growth and became a commercial and cultural hub. In the modern era, especially after the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, Lausanne was transformed into an educational and administrative center, maintaining its regional importance.
In the 20th and 21st centuries, Lausanne has developed as a modern and dynamic city, with a strong focus on education, technology and sport. The establishment of the International Olympic Committee in 1915 marked a milestone, consolidating its international reputation. In recent decades, the city has invested in sustainable infrastructure and in the promotion of international events, such as congresses and conferences, highlighting the SwissTech Convention Center. Lausanne continues to be a benchmark in innovation, culture and quality of life in Switzerland and Europe.
