Je l'ai déjà été !Explora el fascinante pasado de Guangzhou (Canton) y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
With a history dating back more than 2,200 years, the city, originally called Panyu, was a prosperous seaport and the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road since the Han Dynasty. It was one of the first Chinese ports to open regularly to foreign trade.
For centuries, it was the only Chinese port allowed to most Western traders, making it a melting pot of cultures and a hub of global trade. This role placed her at the center of conflicts such as the Opium Wars in the 19th century. Shamian Island, a former Franco-British concession, is a testament to this era.
In the early 20th century, Guangzhou was a hotbed of revolutionary activity under the leadership of Sun Yat-sen, the father of modern China. Following the economic reforms of the late 20th century, the city has reaffirmed itself as an economic powerhouse, home to the famous Canton Fair and a pillar of the development of the Greater Bay Area of the Pearl River Delta.
