I've been there!Explora el fascinante pasado de Aarhus y descubre cómo se ha desarrollado a lo largo de los siglos.
Aarhus has its origins in the 8th century, founded by Vikings as a strategic settlement on the east coast of Jutland. Its name comes from the Århus Å stream that runs through the city. It was an important commercial and maritime center during the Viking Age and the Middle Ages, with settlements evidence of continuous occupation since then.
During the Middle Ages, Aarhus received city rights in 1441, which boosted its urban and commercial development. The city grew around its port and established itself as an important regional center. In the following centuries, Aarhus underwent architectural and urban transformations, incorporating Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Neoclassical styles, reflected in its old town and monuments such as St. Clement's Cathedral.
In the 20th and 21st centuries, Aarhus has modernized considerably, becoming a premier university and cultural center in Scandinavia. It has developed advanced infrastructure, with a strong focus on sustainability and renewable energy. Cultural events, urban expansion and the integration of technology have marked its recent evolution, consolidating it as a dynamic and cosmopolitan city.
