Its origins date back to the Roman settlement of Vindobona. However, its importance grew exponentially as the seat of the Habsburg dynasty, becoming the capital of the Holy Roman Empire and, later, the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The 18th and 19th centuries marked its golden age as the cultural capital of Europe. It was the home of composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Strauss. The construction of the Ringstrasse boulevard in the 19th century gave it monumental historicist architecture.
The end of the First World War and the fall of the empire marked a great change. After the Second World War, Vienna established itself as an important international diplomatic center, headquarters of organizations such as the UN and OPEC, maintaining its status as a beacon of culture and stability.
