Preparing the experience...
The Region of Murcia is a treasure of sun and contrasts in the Spanish southeast. It is a land bathed by the Mediterranean, known as the Costa Cálida due to the high temperatures of its waters, especially in the Mar Menor, the largest salt lagoon in Europe. Its interior is the 'Orchard of Europe', a fertile irrigated landscape of Arab origin that produces fruits and vegetables of exceptional quality. But Murcia is also a land of arid, almost desert landscapes, and an important historical legacy: from the Roman splendor of Cartagena to the vibrant baroque of the city of Murcia and the mining past that has sculpted the mountains of La Unión. Visiting the Region of Murcia means enjoying more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, savoring gardens and sea cuisine, and discovering a welcoming culture full of life.

Murcian gastronomy is the garden cuisine par excellence, simple, healthy and full of flavor. It is based on the quality of its vegetables and fruits, combined with the excellent fish from the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean, and the rice from the interior.
The most emblematic seafood dish. A soupy and powerful rice cooked with a broth made with rock fish and ñoras. It is traditionally served in two dishes: first the fish with potatoes and aioli, and then the rice.
A simple and delicious scrambled egg from the garden. Slowly poached zucchini and onion to which egg is added. A humble and exquisite dish.
The local version of ratatouille, which differs by using mainly eggplant, pepper and tomato, all fried in olive oil. A vegetable fry full of flavor.
The Murcian tapa par excellence. A crispy donut with Russian salad on top. If she has an anchovy, she is a 'marinera'; if it has an anchovy in vinegar, a 'sailor'; and if she goes alone, a 'bicycle'.
A gem of gastronomic baroque. A crispy puff pastry on top and creamy on the bottom, filled with beef, chorizo, hard-boiled egg and spices. A recipe with centuries of history.
A hearty and tasty stew, typical of the Cartagena countryside. Large dried beans slowly cooked with chorizo, bacon, ham bone and chilli.
An ancient fishing tradition. Mojama (salt-cured tuna loin) and hueva (pressed and cured fish roe) are intense and delicious appetizers, often served with fried almonds.
The three D.O. of the region are famous for their wines made with the Monastrell grape, which produces powerful, meaty and colorful red wines, ideal for meats and stews.

One of the most international Spanish liquors, originally from Cartagena. Its secret recipe includes 43 ingredients, with a sweet and vanilla flavor. It is drunk alone, with ice, or in the famous 'Asian' coffee.
The most original and famous garden dessert. Lemon leaves covered in a flour and egg dough, fried and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Attention: the leaf is not eaten!
A convent sweet based on caramelized egg yolk and sugar, with a dense texture and very sweet flavor.
Puff pastries filled with angel hair or cream, typical of the northwest area and Caravaca.
Thin round wafers filled with honey or chocolate, decorated with engravings that reproduce places and traditions of the city.
Several shelters and caves in the Region of Murcia, such as those in Calasparra and Cieza, are part of this complex, with important prehistoric paintings in a Levantine and schematic style.
Intangible Cultural Heritage. Drum rituals celebrated during Holy Week, where thousands of people play in unison creating a deafening roar and a unique atmosphere.
Spring and Autumn are the best times, with very pleasant temperatures to enjoy both the coast and the interior and the big parties. Summer is very hot and dry, ideal for sun and beach lovers who are not afraid of high temperatures. Winter is very mild, perfect for a quiet getaway, especially to coastal cities.
The heat in summer can be very intense throughout the region, it is crucial to protect yourself from the sun and constantly hydrate yourself. Be careful with jellyfish in the Mar Menor at certain times. The 'cold drop' (DANA) can cause torrential rains and floods in autumn, it is important to pay attention to weather alerts.
