Discover Community Of Madrid

Madrid is an autonomous community that revolves around its capital, a city that never sleeps, vibrant, welcoming and full of contagious energy. It is an epicenter of art, with the Paseo del Prado housing the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums within a few meters. It is a capital of kings, with the majesty of the Royal Palace and its gardens. But Madrid is much more than its city: it is the university history of Alcalá de Henares, the Versailles gardens of Aranjuez and the peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama, which offer an escape from nature and fresh air just a few kilometers from the urban bustle. Madrid is an invitation to experience the streets, to enjoy its terraces, to have tapas in its markets, to get lost in its neighborhoods and to discover that there is always something new to do.

Local Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Madrid is a melting pot of cuisines from all over Spain. Although it does not have a regional cuisine as defined as others, it has made iconic dishes its own and has elevated tapas to the category of art. Its gastronomic markets are a hive of life.

Regional Specialties

Madrid stew

The most emblematic dish. A hearty chickpea stew with various meats and sausages, which is traditionally served in three 'turns': first the soup, then the chickpeas with the vegetables, and finally the meats.

Typical Drinks

Tap Vermouth

Going for vermouth is a Madrid tradition. In many traditional bars it is served straight from the tap, often with a slice of orange and an olive. It is the quintessential appetizer of the weekend.

Beer Cane

More than a drink, it is a measure and an institution. The Madrid beer, small and served very cold in a thin glass, is famous for being 'well drawn', with just the right amount of foam. It is the basis of social life on the terraces.

Madrid Wines (D.O.)

The community has its own Denomination of Origin, with subzones such as San Martín de Valdeiglesias or Arganda. They are increasingly recognized wines, especially their Garnacha reds and Albillo whites.

Anise from Chinchón
